2018 version. IPA with beetroot.
Pours a deep, bright maroon with a fluffy layer of pink foam. Head retention is great. Aroma is herbal, floral, and light citrus hops with a dash of earth malts and beet. Flavor profile is herbal, floral, and citrus. Earthy malts mash up with beets to form a dirty, natural finish. Mouth feel is a touch fizzy and harsh, but is otherwise medium in thickness. Overall, a unique, earth-driven IPA with a harsh feel.
Served in a 12oz snifter from a 16oz can.

Cloudy with a dark gold color. Moderate initial head which settles to a continual fine layer of bubbles. The lacing features a large-bubbled blanket on the glass.
Smooth, pale malt start to the nose. The hop is also smooth, like a refined, quiet spice (a bit like oregano, a bit like pine/citrus rind combo). I get no sourness from the smell.
The taste has a good dollop of sourness--a bit like grapefruit. The notes from the smell are not very present in the taste. The beer can says this version has lychee and pink guava. I can tease out the lychee, but I have no idea what the pink guava contributes. The aftertaste is naturally tart but fades quickly.
Overall, an easy introduction for most into the world of Berliner Weisse beers because of the subtle interplay of the smells and tastes.
