2018 version. IPA with beetroot.

Pours a deep, bright maroon with a fluffy layer of pink foam. Head retention is great. Aroma is herbal, floral, and light citrus hops with a dash of earth malts and beet. Flavor profile is herbal, floral, and citrus. Earthy malts mash up with beets to form a dirty, natural finish. Mouth feel is a touch fizzy and harsh, but is otherwise medium in thickness. Overall, a unique, earth-driven IPA with a harsh feel.

Served in a 12oz snifter from a 16oz can.

Cloudy with a dark gold color. Moderate initial head which settles to a continual fine layer of bubbles. The lacing features a large-bubbled blanket on the glass.

Smooth, pale malt start to the nose. The hop is also smooth, like a refined, quiet spice (a bit like oregano, a bit like pine/citrus rind combo). I get no sourness from the smell.

The taste has a good dollop of sourness--a bit like grapefruit. The notes from the smell are not very present in the taste. The beer can says this version has lychee and pink guava. I can tease out the lychee, but I have no idea what the pink guava contributes. The aftertaste is naturally tart but fades quickly.

Overall, an easy introduction for most into the world of Berliner Weisse beers because of the subtle interplay of the smells and tastes.

Poured from the can into a Mikkeller bodega glass.

Nice looking, pale yellow, with a fine, thick foam.

Smell is fairly perfumed, with a lot of guava and a bit of youghurt in the background.

Taste is floral and perfumed, with a bit of mineral. Nice helpng of guava, slightly tart.

Body is very light and crisp, with spunky carbonation. Feels really refreshing to drink.

Overall, a good Berliner. This is a brewery that many people rave about, but I just think they're solid. Nothing I've tried really gets my juices flowing, but they are always good. This is no exception.

Hazy straw gold, with bright passionfruit and sock funk aromas. Taste is big lychee syrupiness and strong passionfruit essence, ending with a tart, funky bite. wheaty grain smoothness underlies the flavor and the texture. Very refreshing beer.

Can.

A: Lots of lychee and pink guava aromas – incredibly fragrant, followed by a moderate lacto sourness

A: Golden color, totally clear, with a frothy white head that has solid retention (for the style) and there is lots of lacing in the glass.

T: Light lychee and pink guava flavor that quickly gives way to a moderate sourness that's slightly sharp and lingers through the finish.

M: Light bodied with moderately high carbonation, light effervescence

O: Pretty tasty; the beer has a really fragrant tropical aroma – amazing! However, the tropical notes to so prevalent in the nose, are much more subdued in taste.

Appearance - Pours slightly cloudy yellowish orange with nice white head very good lacing all around the glass.

Aroma - Very nice tart aroma, the guava and what I assume is the lychee give it a sweet addition. Great lemon lime combo with just a hint of barnyard funk.

Taste - Great tart lemon lime flavor, just a hint of sweetness good balance. There is just a touch of barnyard funk like the aroma.

Feel - Pretty light bodied feels like it is effervescent, little bit of bite from the tartness.

Overall - This delivers, great flavors wonderful feel.

Poured a golden orange color with a slight haze to it and a good amount of foamy white head that laces the glass. The nose has a some funky fruit smells with a bit of spice. The smell is definitely bigger than the taste. Don't get me wrong, you get a wonderful combination of flavors all playing nice with each other. The fruits are being chased by some funk before some earthy spices catches both of them. All of this is done subtly though and perfect for the style. A perfectly subdued complex beer!

Pours a slightly hazy golden color with thick dense white head, settles slowly to a thin cap leaving a sheet of thick lace behind. Smell: a significant blast of citric and tropical hops, with more of a lemon-lime and green mango thing going on. Wheat cracker. Clean, nothing that would indicate it's a berliner rather than a tropically hopped pale wheat. Taste: lime, grapefruit, strawberry-jam-ish guava, sugary pale malt upfront; cleared out by a lactic wave; finish is like straight lychee, wow. Creamy feel, crisp finish. Nice!

500 ml can into tulip glass, best before 7/6/2017. Pours slightly hazy golden orange color with a 2 finger dense and rocky white head with incredible retention, that reduces to a large cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of tart lemon, lime, grapefruit, pear, apple, passion fruit, mango, melon, lychee, guava, citrus zest, wheat, cracker, light honey, light pepper/lacto funk, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/acidic yeast, tropical fruits, and moderate pale malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big tart lemon, lime, grapefruit, pear, apple, passion fruit, mango, lychee, guava, citrus zest, wheat, cracker, light honey, light pepper/lacto funk, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Moderate fruity/acidic tartness and light yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, lime, grapefruit, pear, apple, passion fruit, mango, melon, lychee, guava, citrus zest, wheat, cracker, pepper, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, tropical fruits, and moderate pale malt flavors; with a great malt/tartness balance, and zero astringent flavors after the finish. Moderate dryness from tartness/acidity, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with very smooth, crisp, moderately creamy/grainy/acidic, and lightly tannic balanced mouthfeel that is awesome. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.5%. Overall this is a fantastic fruited Berliner weisse! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, tropical fruits, and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and refreshing to drink with the balanced tartness/acidity. A highly enjoyable offering.

Intense tropical aromas of guava, lychee, and fruity hops.
Puckering and fruity, moderately tart with guava and tropical hoppy elements.

Light bodied, crisp and juicy. Super refreshing and tasty. Recommended.

Poured into a teku pint. Bottom of can says 07/06/17.

A- Pours a medium amber color with a 3/4 inch white head that retains well before becoming a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a full sheet of surface foam. Not-so-resilient lacing leaves tiny specs behind.

S- Incredibly bright, fruity dry hop aroma with lots of guava spiciness. There's also a bit of unexpected funk that just ties everything together almost perfectly.

T- Flavor is mildly tart with a pronounced fruitiness to round it out. The tropical notes from the lychee and the spiciness from the guava go together so well while the combined tartness and hop bitterness brings out a bit of ruby red grapefruit quality. Somewhat sweet malt aftertaste.

M- Small amount of pucker with medium carbonation and a light body.

O- I could drink this stuff all day. The only thing stopping me is the price tag which nears $5 for a 16 oz can. Regardless, this stuff is super tasty and you should jump at the chance to try it.

L: Poured from a tallboy can to a goblet. Had a golden-amber color and a hazy consistency. There was an inch of foamy, long-lasting head. Excellent lacing.

S: An exceptionally sweet, fruity aroma that hits you the moment you open the can. Lots of citrus tropical fruit, and wheat.

T: Tasted of a fair amount of wheat - mostly in the finish - along with light citrus notes (lemon), the salty quality you usually find in these beers, tropical fruit (guava), and the advertised lychee. Quite a fruity flavor all around, dominated by the tropical fruits. Light, sweet, tart, and vibrant.

F: A well-carbonated beer with a smooth finish. Light-bodied.

O: Yet another good summer beer to try out. Easy to drink and enjoyable.
