Copenhagen 28/3 2019. 50 cl can from Mikkeller Web-shop. The Ms. brands usual design which reminds me of an advertisement for paint.

Pours opaque dark brown with big darkly beige head. Settles as thin but frothy layer of foam crawling up the sides of the glass. Substantial lacing.

Aroma is intense, dark and sweetish. Licorice in abundance, light roast, coffee bitter odor, dried fruit, brown sugar. The licorice provides an impressively bitter back curtain.

Light carbonation. Medium thick, oily, soft texture.

Flavor is rather sweet followed by a more moderate licorice bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet with a notable bitter undercurrent. Lingering.

Solid licorice kick which almost manages to hide the fact that it has an ABV of 10.

Look: It pours black with a dark brown head. Head retention is excellent.

Smell: Deep aroma of roast and dark fruits. It has a strong licorice aroma that is supporting the roast. It also has notes of plums and dates.

Taste: The licorice and roast and strong in the flavor in the balance. The dates and plums are moderately strong.

Feel: It has a full body with the licorice and dark fruits lasting long into the finish.

Overall, the licorice and dates really enhance the stout flavors to give it an extra edge.

500 ml. can.
Moderate pour yields a 3/4 inch tan head over a black body with nice sticky lacing. Nose of dark malt, chocolate, licorice, and dark fruit. Taste mirrors nose closely with dark chocolate, bitter chocolate, malted milk, licorice, and slight dark fruit. Near velvet feel and overall, I would recommend this very highly as a great dessert beer. I think this would be fantastic with a stinky cheese, apple pie, or just about any favorite dessert of yours. Cheers to the other Scandinavian gypsy brewers!

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Appropriately pours nearly pitch black, opaque in the glass with a fine, two finger brown head with great retention and thick lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, molasses, cocoa, a hint of licorice and knowing that they are there, dates. Flavor is dark toasted malt, cocoa, dark dried fruit, and licorice, which lingers along with dark malt into the finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess and good mouth feel. A rich, dark stout with clear licorice notes and lighter dark dried fruit from the dates, although I would not have identified them in a blind taste. I'm usually not excited about fruit and licorice in stouts, but it works well here; the flavor of authentic black licorice is clear and meld well with the malt. This looks, smells and tastes great. These guys do a great job with stouts.

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a finger high tan head that died down, leaving a short head covering the surface leaving lots of lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of licorice are present in the nose along with strong notes of dark malts.
T: The taste follows the smell and has lots of flavors of licorice and roasted malts with hints of dates.
M: It feels medium- to full-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation. The roasted malts lends lots of dryness to the finish.
O: This beer is nice and dry and roasty but isn't overly difficult to drink because it does a very good job at hiding any traces of alcohol from the taste.
