A nice golden pour with a thin head that sticks around and peaks around the glass. Have to say though that this beer leans more to a Helles Marzen than I tend to gravitate to. The nose is a bit flowery and there is a hint of honey and citrus. There is a bit of sweetness at the beginning that morphs to a light bitterness at the end. I get a bit of a minerally hard water mouth feel that sticks to the back of my mouth. Otherwise fairly smooth and a pretty good drink. After I have tasted I can see the rest of the bottle going down fairly quickly.

This is beer 10 from the Rieder Advent Calendar. Clear golden yellow with a short-lived head of big bubbles. The aroma is slightly herby, a little spice. Very light and quaff-able, with just a little kick of extra fizziness on the tongue. Nice spice notes, I love that there's no cloying finish, it's very clean. Quality beer for sure. Not anything to write home about, probably a C+, but if I'm grading these first advent beers on a curve, then it becomes an A-.

330ml bottle, day 10 of the 2012 Craft Beer Advent calendar. Nice to see this schlepped over the Atlantic for we Western Canadians, for neither the March, or Oktoberfest time frames.

This beer pours a somewhat hazy, pale golden yellow colour, with one finger of foamy, fizzy off-white head, which leaves but a low-lying berm of surface lace around the glass as it quickly heads south.

It smells of sweet, fruity, biscuity malt - apple and mild drupe notes, mainly, some earthy, floral honey, a mild hard water character, and soft grassy, weedy hops. The taste is semi-sweet biscuity, bready pale malt, some weakened field clover honey, a chalky mineral character, and subtle earthy, leafy noble hops.

The carbonation is average, and functional enough, the body a wavering medium weight, and actually rather smooth. It finishes well off-dry, the white bready malt persisting over the malingering, slightly astringent hops.

Not really all that Marzen-like, more of a decent year-round regional German lager, or, I suppose Austrian, were that a class unto itself. Anyhoo, drinkable for a round or two, I would suppose.

Craft beer advent...

A: Clear yellow with a white head, bit of retention, very little lace.

S: Honey-like sweetness, floral, light mineral.

T: Light sweetness: Toffee & honey; slight earthy mineral; gentle bitterness.

M: Well-attenuated, moderate body is very smooth.

O: Really great beer, but a Marzen? It's definitely more of a helles. I'd love to session this all night...

A - Translucent straw coloured with a generous off white dense head.

S- boozy with hints of malt

T -Metallic, thin, not very flavourful at all.

M - Thin, could use a few more bubbles.

O - Eh. You could get drunk off this. I won't remember this beer it is fairly flavourless. I won't buy it. I wish it was different.

330ml bottle poured into tulip 26/9/12

A bright golden yellow with some suspended particles and lots of bubbles of all sizes, tight thumbs width of head leaves a few thick distinct rings of lace before it falls and leaves lots of random lace even as a thin film

S grassy hops and sweet honey and candied corn, not very strong though you gotta look for not a whole lot

T just more sweet malts and again there's not much going on, sweet corn and grassy grains, not a Marzen really just a simple lager

M more body then the light color would imply, good carbonation and a fairly clean finish and I'm not sure if that's good or bad

O pretty boring beer, not offensive by any means but I was expecting a Oktoberfest beer and this one's just not delivering

I'm hoping there's some hidden gems in my Advent Calendar because a 1/4 of the way through it my 100$ investment is needing a higher interest rate

It has a full golden color, almost amber. Scarce head, and also not persistent.
In the smell malt and caramel, a little too heavy.
The taste is again malty and caramel, and the sweetnessis a little exaggerated.
Medium to low body. Sweet and malty aftertaste.
