Pours a cloudy amber with modest foam that dissipates quickly. Smell is dominated by grassy hops and biscuity malt. Flavor matches smell but weakly. Has modest carbonation and fairly smooth mouthfeel. Beer is fine, but not the Vienna lager I was expecting. Other than the color and the cloudiness, this takes like a good, but generic, Helles.

Notes via stream of consciousness: The Climber? I don't get it. There is a picture of a mountain on the label but I don't see anyone on it. Also, this beer is just 5.7% so it can't be an allusion to its strength. So what do we have here? It's hazy, and more brown than red in my opinion but that's probably because whatever's causing the haze is reflecting light back at me. It appears to be about 14 SRM. The head is a thumb's width of rocky, slightly yellowed off-white foam. It's fruity in the nose with sweetish golden to medium red caramel, some delicate spice, and a bit of toastiness. The taste is similar and although I love the dark skinned fruitiness I certainly wasn't expecting that from a lager. Ah, I wonder if that's coming from Vienna malts which can give a berry-like fruitiness. I'm not finding any real spiciness but there is a midld touch which I'm assuming is coming from hops, Saaz perhaps. The caramel is nicely balanced, and the soft toastiness remains. It reminds me of a Nürnberger rotbier. The bitterness is moderate and smooth, and it's balanced towards malt. It finishes smoothly with everything just fading away steadily. In the mouth it's medium bodied on the fuller side, and creamy with a moderate, fine-bubbled carbonation. All in all this is quite good but the haze really hurts it. The head retention and lacing were quite good though so I'm not really sure how to score it.

500 ml can from Costco's 2024 Holiday Biergarten Collection.
Appearance. Hazy, reddish-brown body topped with an excellent tan head.
A hazy, German, "Red Lager"? Notably better than expected, this is a relatively rich and malty lager. Recommended.

I do notice the malt taste. The malt taste reminds me of Old Milwaukee. I don't recall having red lager before, and I like the helles style lager better.
This is drinkable, it's ok, but I wouldn't look for it to buy more.

From the half liter can in the 2024 Biergarten Collection from Costco, it pours a hazy brown color with reddish highlights. The nose gets sweet malt and some caramel. The mouth follows, with the caramel noticeable and the maltiness coming through.

From a can as part of a Costco package. Pours a dark amber with 1/2 inch foam. It smells sweet. It has a sweeter, thicker malt flavor than the genre usually has and less hops. But it was a great change of pace. I would drink it again.
