Pours a golden color with moderate, bright white foam with good persistence and noteworthy lacing. Smell is heavy on malty sweetness with a mild floral hopiness. The flavor starts with that same sweet malt, but the hops come on strong in the middle and dominate the aftertaste. Feel is fairly smooth but the significant carbonation keeps it from being cloying. There is more alcohol than most lagers, but I did not find it annoying like some other reviewers. Overall, this is a very drinkable beer, but not one I would go out of my way to find.

Clear amber appearance with light carbonation. Body is maybe a bit thin but overall a good feel.
Aroma is subdued but theres a floral sweet maltiness.
Taste is more impressive than the aroma with it having a malt sweetness but theres a hop backbone that adds a nice dimension
Overall it may not be world class but I personally enjoy these beer in a box experiences and this was worth a try

Privatbrauerei Eichbaum "Goldener Hopfen"
500 ml can coded "04.07.2025 EHL P044040424". Sampled on 02.11.2024
$59.99 / 24 can - Costco's Biergarten Collection, Costco, Christiana, DE
Notes via stream of consciousness: Based on the name I'm hoping that this is a hoppy beer but I've been let down before. It's poured a clear golden body beneath a massive head of white foam. All I'm getting in the nose is sweet malt and a light touch of floral hops. I guess the hops are still golden, there's just not that many of them in play. Bummer. On to the taste... as usual it's pretty much exactly what you find in the aroma. The malt is sweet and grainy, and the hops are mild but floral. Some alcohol shows. How strong is this? Oh, it's 7.3%, right, I'd forgotten that the label reads "Strong Lager". I thought that perhaps this was an adjunct beer so I checked the label, and it's not, or at least it says it's not, but it lists hop extract. Now I'm not against hop extract but with the name Goldener Hopfen I would've thought they would have used actual hops. Another thing that bugs me is, if this is just 7.3% ABV, and not say 8 or 9%, why does the alcohol show? It's not super hot but it reminds me of an American malt liquor. Maybe that's what they were going for. On the other hand it's actually a good thing as there's not enough bitterness to it and the alcohol helps to balance it in the end. In the mouth it's medium bodied on the fuller end and smooth and creamy across the palate. The mouthfeel is good, and it looks great with excellent head retention and some very good lacing, but in the end it's not a good beer. I won't even label this as a fernseherbier, this is a bahnhofbier, something you pay too much for at a train station kiosk because there's not much to choose from and you need something for the hours long ride ahead of you. Or you want the buzz but they've probably also got big cans of FAXE for that. Disappointing.

From the half liter can in the 2024 Biergarten Collection from Costco, it pours a clear golden color with a nice white head that diminishes and leaves lacing. The nose gets a strong dose of alcohol with some hops and a hint of vanilla. The mouth gets a bit of booze, with light malt and a mild bitter aftertaste.

500ml can from Costco's 2024 Holiday Collection. A Best By date of 4 July 2025 is stamped on the bottom of the can.
Appearance. This has a durable white head over a golden body.
Nice, malt forward aroma. The flavor, unlike the aroma, is markedly boozy as well as more hoppy.

This is another can from Costco's Biergarten collection. I do like lager, but don't recall tasting strong lager before, and I like regular lager, like helles, much better. This feels rough going down. It is drinkable, but has a strong (malty?) taste.
