This stunning marzen lager hits the glass with the truest of amber color, and a delicate white head sits atop the beer, inviting you in. The aroma immediately entices you with caramel, chestnut and fresh baked whole grain bread. Flavor wise, all the aromatics shine through on the palate, but there is more at play here. There is a lovely fruit note, a little plum, a hint of apple, and it is complimented with the perfect amount of earthy hop bitterness underneath it all. The finish is long without being overwhelming, leaving this liquid nearly impossible to get out of your mind. So drinkable, so memorable, so wonderful.

16oz can from Das Alpenhaus. Dark, clear amber pour, small frothy off-white head settles down to thin silky layer. Sweet malty aroma, caramel, fresh brown bread. Taste is caramel, sweet, pumpernickel. Very tasty, finishes quick.

Poured a seethru copper body with decent head and lace. Aroma is mild and earthy with some nice maltiness. Smooth, clean, spring-like with decent hoppiness and sweet maltiness and a little chewy and sweet on finish and enjoyable.

Had on tap. Mostly clear bronzed amber body, full white head. Really pleasant toasted caramel malt leading the smell, actually bready yeast complimenting, supporting notes brown bread, dark nuts and a kiss of earthy hop. Taste is much the same but more malty, the brown bread has a definitive toast tone now. Feel is malty at the base and bready yeast on top. This is a really good marzen!

Pours a striking autumnal copper with a thin layer of head. The nose has notes of toasted malt complimented by a nutty essence. The flavor profile also has toasted maltiness, but it is more modest than the nose indicates. The body is lighter than I like in this style.

This style does not get enough love. I'll happily go way over rDev here cuz this is some special sauce. A bit of a departure, lending more toasted and semi-sweet character to the style, holy smokes is this stuff delicious beer. Complex and satisfying from start to finish of each sip. Superb.

16 oz can. Pours copper with tall, long-lasting, fluffy white head. Aroma is of grassy hops and caramel malt. Body is medium and slightly crisp. Grassy hops, spicy yeast and caramel malt nicely balanced on the palate. Finish is long, semi-dry. Nice brew.

Poured from a can into a Maß.

Look: A deep, reddish copper with a thick, foamy white head that lingers as a small half-finger in depth on top well after the pour. Perfectly clear. Bordering on the darkest examples I've ever seen for an import.

Smell: Noticeably malty up front with a strong grain presence. Dark breads mixing with pretty rich toasted malt/toffee notes. It took a few passes but I finally caught a hint of Noble hop spice in the background.

Taste: As others below have noted, very rich and malty out of the gates. Lots of dark bread quickly overcome by a malty sweetness but not in a cloying way. Hop spice/grassiness on the back-end cuts the malt before it becomes overbearing. Not the most balanced but entirely pleasant.

Feel: Almost full-bodied for a märzen but just the right balancing act which is surprising given the heft of the malt. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Creamy and does the classic tongue tingle on the back end following the hop spice. Great.

Overall: A slightly unconventional but very good märzen. Brings a solid flavor punch more reminiscent of something like Avery's Kaiser without being overbearingly sweet and maintaining a 5.5% ABV with a classic import touch. Highly recommend it.
