Really nice taste, complex with a Clean after taste. Would like it to be a creamier texture

12oz bottle, red wine glass, no freshness information.

We've got a very dark brown beer with no highlights to speak of and not much head either. The light cap and ring of bubbles are root beer brown.

Medium roast coffee beans, whipped cream, roasted malt,

Coffee ice cream is melting on my tongue. Sweet cream, iced coffee, stale dark bread crust, and roasted malt come together for a very balanced desert of a beer. On the hop front there is a little herbal flavor.

The mouthfeel is as creamy as the flavor. Elda M has a full body and plenty of carbonation that comes off creamy instead of crisp.

This one is definitely a sleeper. There's no date on it, but I hope that it was brewed after the waters from Hurricane Harvey receded. Here's to you Katy, TX. Who knew you'd produce a creamy, delicious milk stout?

33cl bottle purchased at a Trader Joe's in Austin, TX for $1.42 USD plus tax. Blue and white label design depicting a ship. Silver pry-off crown cap.

Served cold into a conical pint glass.

"Brewed with 10 different malts." "Winter seasonal."

HEAD: Frothy and white.

BODY: Solid black colour.

AROMA: Roasted barley, dark malts, molasses, Whoppers, specialty chocolate malt, Hershey's syrup.

Aromatic intensity is average.

TASTE: On the sweet side, lacking sufficient roastiness or coffee-like bitterness to counter the chocolatey malty sweetness. Imbalanced as a result. Evokes Hershey's chocolate syrup and all the artificiality of flavour that implies.

TEXTURE: Smooth, wet, medium-bodied, well-carbonated, syrupy, and of adequate thickness.

OVERALL: It's a drinkable milk stout, but with Left Hand's expressions of the style competing with it in the same market (not to mention local contender Lakewood Brewing's Temptress) it's tough to imagine who'd make this their go-to. General imbalance and wanting depth of flavour drag this otherwise pleasant brew down. I'll enjoy finishing my bottle, but I can't see myself buying it again in spite of its approachable flavour profile. More complexity via coffee, vanilla bean additive, roast, burnt malt bitterness, or the like would be welcome.

High C+ (3.23) / ABOVE AVERAGE

Coal black pour with a brown head. Aroma has chocolate, vanilla and light roasted malt. Taste has a roasted and burnt flavor upfront that is backed by a touch of sweet vanilla. Finishes with a bitter and burnt flavor.

Wow. Rivals Left Hand's Milk Stout (never thought I'd say that) IMO. Silky smooth with no off flavors. A bit of a sticky, roasty aftertaste (good thing). Lingering sweetness and then a clean finish. I am shocked at the low ratings below.

This one pours a midnight black that is virtually impenetrable to light. The head is shallow, short lived and leaves spots instead of lacing down the glass.

The nose is rich bitter-sweet chocolate, vanilla, grass, cereal, bread, all spice, hops and smokey malt.

The taste is very nice and bitter but falls off very quickly to a smooth and clean finish that then resumes the bitterness at the rear of the palate after the quaff is over. There is sweetness left on the lips while there is dark chocolate, coffee, vanilla and pepper.

The mouthfeel is adequate bordering on a little to watery. But this does not take away from the overall experience. I just expect more richness to a stout.

Overall this is a rather drinkable and enjoyable milk stout. A lot more bitter than most but still very good overall. A hop heads milk stout.
