Dangerous Intentions Pale Ale

Pours a clear golden amber. A small white head makes way for some good lacing.
Light aroma (though I'm a bit stuffed up right now). Slight toasted malt, hoppy, and crisp.
Flavor has a good malty backbone with a hop forward attitude. A pleasant bitterness persists.
Light to medium bodied. A nice carbonation provides a nice traction to the mouthfeel rather than being slick at the swallow like some DIPA's.
This is a great DIPA. Drinkable? Hell yeah... I didn't even splitt the growler.

GABF 2005. Light gold. Big time fruity hop aroma, with hints of grapefruit and lemon, as well as hints of peach, and a light hint of kettle corn and caramel (from the malt.) Medium bodied. A fairly nicely balanced Double IPA, just like the aroma, with big hops (grapefruit, lemon, resin), but also a nice backing of caramel, fruit and toffee.

Acquired via trade. Hand bottled by the brewmaster in a 22oz bomber. Pours a lightly hazed golden orange color with a thin off-white head. Thin rings of lacing. Big aroma of citrus and piney hops. Medium-bodied with loads of citrus and hops flavor. Pine and malt flavors are also present in lesser amounts. The finish is bitter and lasting. Like many of my favorite IIPAs, this has more going on than just aggressive hops. Very good.

Amber with a slight chill haze. Nice big off-white head that lasts. Nice moderate amount of white fluffly lacing.

One hell of a big citrus punch in the nose and a bit of caramel.

Nice citrusy grapefuit-like hop flavor but not a lot of bitter bite. Hops dwindle to just a bit of pine before the finish. Sweet malts.

Nice balance of hops and malts with good carbonation level for the style. Medium bodied.

Very easy to drink at 9% abv...wouldn't know it. I am really liking the DIPA style more and more.

Sampled on draft at the main Albuquerque location, then again at the Blue Corn "microbar" downtown Albuquerque. Same amazing beer each time.

Appearance: Rich copper color nearly identical to the copper bar with a 1/2" foamy head. Very nice site. During the sampling thick bands of lacing covered the glass and stayed on the side I wasn't drinking from until the bartender took the glass to clean it.

Smell: Wow, hops! Pure cascades and other hop varieties. I'm not sure what hops I smell, definitely ones I'm not as familiar with. Smells like the fresh hop buds from my Mt. Hood hop bine from my back yard. Hints of fresh citrus, pine, grass, flowers. It's like I was holding a variety of fresh picked hops in my hands.

Taste: Sweet malt followed by floral, herbal, piney hops with a citrus tang and just a slight bitterness. A wonderful balance of hops and malt. Light bitterness for the amount of hops that must be in this beer. The malt is rich, roasted sweetness. Fantastic

Mouthfeel: Slightly sticky sweet, with a little dryness on the end. Very well done.

Drinkability: I could drink this all day. Quite possibly the perfect balance of sweetness and the hops that I am so completely in love with. The only drawback would be you couldn't go to less hoppy or possibly any other beer style after this. I made the mistake of sampling the Weizenbock after a full pint of this and it was not a good choice.

Note: I sent an email to the brewer with some questions. He replied with the hops used, among other things.
"The Dangerous Intentions Pale Ale, a Double IPA, is bittered with Columbus & Horizon, late addtion of Simcoe, and dry hopped with Centennial & Columbus."

They have growlers and if I was not on a three states in two days business trip I would have gotten one or twelve!
