Poured into a 5.5 oz. shorty tasting glass at Marble Brewing as one of their "guest brews" from local breweries.
Appearance is tawny golden, much lighter than expected, and while it's not yellow, the color looks closer to a weisse than a bock. Head was small, maybe a finger, of egg shell foam, and dissipated quickly but was easy to revive.
Taste and nose were both spicy, strong on the estery clove notes but didn't bring out nearly enough depth for the style--more green grape than raisin. You get a slight banana pull on the nose but it's all but missing on the palate, replaced by more grassy bright fruit notes on the one hand and pepper and clove on the other. A little sweet without the richer malt I expected to kick in.
Mouthfeel is smooth, creamy, and well carbonated--just right. I didn't catch the ABV and with such a small sampling I can't say much in the way of drinkability. With a lighter touch I could imagine it would be easy to throw back a few of these without a problem if the percentage isn't terribly high.
Not a bad beer, but a little simple and light for the style.
