Served at Draft Station overlooking the plaza in Santa Fe. Thin 10 ounce glass.
It has a quarter finger of creamy, oatmeal-colored head and a dark amber body with blonde hues. Carbonation is constant and helps the head persist with a laciness atop the body. 4.75
Light fruit aroma like berries then sweet caramel and a bright floral bouquet. Tasty, but I don't sense much oak or whiskey (the beer was apparently aged with oak spirals and soaked in Colkegan whiskey). 4.25
True to the nose, it has the floral bouquet and a sweet caramel flavor that isn't overdone, plus I'm still getting some fruit. There's more to this though, certainly a touch of whiskey flavor and spice and a rich vanilla flavor. 4
It's got a bit of alcohol bite but nothing too offensive for an 11.2%ABV beer. It drinks with a full body and good caramel-like sweetness and creaminess. 4
An impressive barleywine. I really enjoy this quite a bit.
