I always enjoyed visiting Black Star.
Following a recent discovery of a trove of notes from 2011 I’m filling in reviews I missed.
From my notes:
Lightly hoppy, overly malty, thin finish.

On tap at the brewpub.
The beer pours an orange-red color with a white head. The aroma is heavy on the candy sugar with some Belgian yeast notes as well as some toffee malt. The flavor is a mix of caramel and toffee with some yeast notes. I also get some sweetness from the candy sugar as well as a little bit of chocolate. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

A: Pours a very cloudy amber/orange color. Lots of suspended yeast floating around. A small white head form and recedes to nothing. Very light lace.
S: A light aroma of citrus hops and some residual sweetness. Biscuit malts as well.
T: Follows the nose. Pretty simple. Citrus hops, sweetness and bread.
M/D: A medium body and carbonation. Crisp and dry. Easy to drink. I can quaff a few with ease.
Easy to drink and simple. A good standby, but nothing out of the ordinary.
