From notes circa 12/12
An oak cask-aged version of Black Star's Mobius with the addition of whole vanilla bean. From what I recall (as it's not currently posted), Mobius is a whiskey barrel aged AIS with licorice or similar. Served in a 12 oz. snifter.
Look- opaque ruby brown with a finger of graham cracker head with the look, feel, and stability of flan. Ridiculous retention. Dense, webbed lacing. The bottom of the glass reveals a deep ruby hue that brings to mind some sort of grapefruit-beet-coffee melange.
Smell- Molasses, char, dark chocolate, toffee, licorice, nutmeg, cherry-vanilla, sarsaparilla, vanilla wafer cookies, dark rum.
Taste- Stone fruit, blood orange, savory spices, again the cherry-vanilla. Cocoa, raisin, pumpernickel. finishes with marshmallow, allspice, brown bread, light herbal hops in the background. Tasty.
Mouthfeel- medium-full for the style, mildly prickly, boozy feel, significant warming. Drier and cleaner than expected. Drinks like carbonated fruit juice.
Overall- What can I say? It's well rounded, developed, complex, delicious, and astounding with the mildy sweet and spicy curry I ordered with it. Not too big, packs int a ton of flavor. Not to mention that it's $5/12 oz. The co-op brewpub wins once again.
