Inky black pour with a tinge of mahogany around the edges of a straight-side Libbey pint glass. Rapidly dissipating collar with little lacing (as expected). The nose is roasty with cocoa beans and coffee aromas.
Entry is quiet with an immediate palate-pleasing mouthfeel. Midtaste shows deeply roasted malt in the guise of semisweet chocolate, roasted walnuts, and toffee. The finish begins zip of hops followed by a slow roasted malt fade.
I can never seem to ID the oatmeal in these beers although I'm quite positive it contributes to the enormous mouthfeel.
