On-tap at Alcatraz (Orange)
A: The pour is a dark copper color with a somewhat short lived off-white head, settling down to a thin layer.
S: The nose is a very nice blend of nutty toffee that, sweet caramel malt, and a hint of vanilla. Surprisingly aromatic and pleasant.
T: This one starts of nicely sweet with some mild peat notes to balance that out. Again, sweet toffee and mildly nutty with a really nice vanilla character. Just a hint of bitterness on the finish.
M: The body is medium with a smooth, creamy carbonation.
D: This was actually very good. I always want to like Scottish ales, and this one allowed me to do so. I'd definitely recommend this beer.

One of the two spring releases by Alcatraz Brewing, on to the beer:
Poured into a pint glass on draft, it's dark brown to opaque in color with a creamy head that leaves pretty good lacing on the glass. This was a hit with me, very sweet flavor with hints of cocoa, smoke, and caramel. The alcohol brings fruit esters to the palate, as does a subtle hop flavor. Firm, smooth, and thick in feel. Love it! If I weren't driving, I might have asked for another. A pleasing brew.
