Poured off the tap in July '08. Color was a dark brown with amber highlights. Beige head about one finger thick laced well and was well retained. As per usual with this brewery, aromas were understated. Roasted malt and faint alcohol esters. Flavors were sweet and malty from the beginning, barley and a straggling hops. Noticeably sweet and it is being used to mask the higher ALC %. Not subtle but not unpleasant. Still, the hops are not enough to balance the brew. Long malt finish. Light body for a darker brew but the mouthfeel is ok.
