On-tap at Alcatraz (Orange)
A: The pour is a darkish amber color with a finger of khaki colored head.
S: Prune juice is the first thing I think of when I smell this beer. Cloyingly sweet and sugary with some banana, raisins, and plums also coming through. Definitely some booze and a bit of toast and roasted malts.
T: More of the same as I drink the beer. The roast comes through a bit more, but so does the booze. Big time prune juice, plums, raisins, and sweet banana. Brown sugar and caramel give more sweetness, which is not necessary.
M: Medium in body with a moderate level of carbonation.
O: Far too sweet to be anything near "drinkable" or enjoyable.

4 oz tap pour in a mini American tumbler pint glass. 8.3% ABV. Had at Alcatraz Brewing Co. at The Block in Cali.
A - Fat Abbott is surprisingly clear for a dubbel as most I encounter are pretty hazed over. The brown-amber color is topped by a low, light cream head.
S - Dark candi sugar kicks the dubbel off in the right direction. A faint yeasty touch balances pretty well with the background amber and caramel malts. A warm, solventy alcohol finish is low but persistent in the nose.
T - The warm solventy alcohol in the flavor, without warning, becomes very hot and overwhelming for this brew. Amber malts fade to the background with some dark candi sugar. Far too boozy/solventy in flavor for a dubbel.
M - Fat Abbott lands in the medium body range with mild carbonation and a fat alcohol warming sensation that over takes all. Too hot!
D - Did I mention that this beer is too hot? Well, the solvent, rubbing alcohol flavor needs to go away to start getting this beer down a good path. It kills the drinkability but it's not UNdrinkable.
