On-tap at Alcatraz (Orange)
A: The pour is a cloudy dark brown color with a finger or so of tan head to go with it.
S: Smells like you would expect an eisbock to. A fair amount of chocolate to go along with toffee, molasses, and caramel. A nice dark fruit profile with raisins and black cherries.
T: Sweet caramel, toffee, and molasses form a nice base in terms of the sweetness. A bit of a dark fruit flavor, not much that I can name other than raisins, though. There is a fairly strong alcohol presence, which isn't surprising, I suppose. A touch of bitterness and what I'd call plum skins to it as well.
M: The body is medium with a moderate carbonation.
D: Kind of boozy, which is really the only flaw with this beer, but it's sort of a big one. And the flavor isn't quite as good the nose, unfortunately. Somehow, this is significantly better than the base beer for this, Annihilator Doppelbock.
