A: Medium copper color. Off-white head that faded somewhat quickly, but laced decently

S: Toasty hops, a very slight hint of a sweet malty smell.

T: Mirrored the smell. Lots of hop flavor throughout, with a hint of malt sneaking in to wrap things up.

M: Crisp, bubbly, plenty of carbonation.

D: Good. Not amazing, not I could drink these all day drinkable, but definitely pleasant overall.

On a trip to the Brickyard 400 we stopped in downtown Indianapolis for a beer and a bite to eat, beerfly report coming soon. Anyway I ordered the pelican pale ale, it gas a decent light copper color to it, not as dark as most paleales but still has nice color. Smell is good, has a robust hop note without much malt although. Taste is good too, has a nice balance to it as well as being easy to drink. Overall it's a decent pale ale and worth a shot

Consumed at the brewpub in Orange, CA, on a sunny afternoon.
Deep yellow/golden color, thin white cap of foam. Lots of carbonation, nice lacing.
Aroma has pale ale characteristics of grapefruit and pine hops. Flavor is similar, citrus grapefruit and pine. Some malt sweetness, but primarily hop bitterness. Average mouthfeel and body. Decent sessional beer.

On tap at the Alcatraz location in Anaheim, CA.

Poured a medium amber color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of caramel, with lighter citrus. Tastes of caramel and the same light citrus. Nothing really stood out on this, but it is a beer that you can drink. Maybe the one I would choose to drink if I found myself at this brewpub all the time.

Came to the table a nice light copper color with a bit of decent head and lacing. Nice scent, faintly floral with a nice hint of citrus. Good flavor, very nice, good and hoppy, some very nice floral and citrus tones to it. Goes down nice and smooth, a good (if not great) APA.

Draft sampler at Indy.

Poured clear pale color with an average frothy white head that mostly lasted with fair lacing. Moderate sour citrus hoppy aroma. Medium body. Medium bitter flavor with a citrus bitter finish of moderate duration.

This was the standout beer for the standards.

This APA was poured into my glass off the tap a copper color with hints of ruby around the edges. Off white head showed very little retention but laced surprisingly well. Toasted hops and some roasted malt underneath are in the nose. The flavors were dominated by citrus hops, grapefruit in particular. Grainy. A biscuity malt shows up further into the sample to offer some balance. Medium body and medium carbonation. Easy to drink with a pleasant mouthfeel. Very down the middle in most ways and mediocre as such. But I would not call it a bad beer either.

consumed at brewery, 03/17/08.

Pale golden with active carbonation. Thin skin of foam with nice lacing.

Aroma has traces of piny, grapefruit hops.

Flavor is similarly mild grapefruit and pine hoppiness. Not much in the way of malt, though there is a little sweet caramel malt profile lurking in there. Finish is mild, lingering bitterness.

Some astringency, but not much.

Keyword here is mild: this is an APA without the massive hop profile one would expect from a west coast example of the style.

And I thought it was relatively difficult to screw up a generic pale ale. How wrong was I.

Golden copper with an attractive lace. As with the other samples I tried, no real discernable nose to speak of.

Plastic malt taste all over the board with biting cascades in the forefront. No late-boil fruitiness. Again with the "hop tincture" taste.

The rubberiness of this beer makes me envision poorly stored hops in a big ol' Ziplock bag. This beer is about on par with licking the wort out of that bag.

Completely bitter with no semblance of malt viscocity. Not entirely undrinkable, but close.

Beer arrived clear light gold with a thin wispy head that left little to no lacing at all.

Smell was a little on the weak side for an APA. Nice hop aroma, but not much else.

Taste seemed one dimensional. I tasted hops and very little else that I frequenly get in an APA. Somewhat disappointing.

Mouthfeel was crisp and bubbly. Over carbonated just slightly in my opinion, forcing a slower drinking.

Overall, this is not a beer I will drive out of my way to try again.

From a sampler: The beer is a dark copper color with a medium thin off-white head. Very thin lacing. There is a light hops aroma, which is a little confusing because there is actually a good amount of hops flavor to be found. As a matter of fact, the taste is almost too bitter. Not flavorfully bitter...just bitter. The finish is on the harsh side as well. Overall this would be a really good APA if it were balanced a little better.

Clear golden-amber, moderately carbonated. Modest white head, not a lot of retention, but leaves behind plenty of lace. Well-balanced smell of floral/citrusy hops and caramel malt. Taste is hoppy - fairly herbal with a citrusy taste in the finish. Bready caramel malt provides nice balance to hops, and become a bit more prominent as the beer warms. Somewhat smooth mouthfeel, moderate body, with an oily finish. Solid APA, and ideal for a session brew.
