not what I was expecting from an Irish Red Ale, but I was really pleasantly surprised all of the carmel malts really make it a "Rich" in mouthfeel. I am always amazed at how good Bier's beers are.

I picked up this growler yesterday evening. This beer pours a lighter bodied dark reddish brown in color with a one finger, very bubbly, beige colored head. It's definitely on the darker side. The aromas are very malty. I was told that this beer features almost all of the crystal malts, which explains the chocolate malt aroma that is pretty prevalent. I'm digging it. The flavors are rich and malty. It is very heavy on the chocolate malt and nutty characteristics, especially for the style. It's actually a lot bolder than I anticipated. If Cigar City's Big Sound Scotch Ale had a less sweet and lighter bodied little brother, this would be it. I'm impressed. It drinks heavier than you'd think and has a nice resonating flavor. I don't tend to like this style but this was a nice beer. Well done Bier!
