Picked this up at Feine Biere in Gärtringen, Germany. Slightly hazy amber-orange pour with a two finger beige head with nice retention and great lacing. The nose is malty and sweet with hints of butterscotch, caramel, nuts, toffee, banana, brown bread, and vanilla. The taste follows suit with caramel malts and vanilla up front along with hints of apple, banana bread, butterscotch, and some subtle clove. The mouthfeel is thick and syrupy with light carbonation and a sweet, subtly warming finish. The 10% ABV is very well hidden making this really drinkable. Overall, the second beer I've tried from Die Bier Zauberei, and I'm quite impressed thus far. A bit on the sweet side, but still a beer I would recommend.

Pours misty amber with a tiny white head.
Sweet overripe fruit in the smell, apple, banana and some peach. Light biscuit, more than a sprinkle of spices, with vanilla, cinnamon, peppercorn and faint licorice. A clear woody whiff too.
Taste follows the nose, mushy sweet apple and apricot, sugared banana chips and a nice lemon zestiness to keep it fresh, especially considering the sweet caramel maltiness that settles afterwards, kinda reminding of sponge cake. Sweet spices complement, like vanilla, a bit of licorice, some clove, but extra woody ones round out the flavor, with hints of cardamom, coriander, peppercorn and grains of paradise, bringing a small prickle too. Lightly toasted oak in the finish, plus some alcohol to seal the deal.
Aftertaste has some warmth (alcohol and "peppery" spices), oak, lingering sweet fruit and a mild earthy hoppiness. Medium body, medium carbonation, not too prickly on the palate. A tiny bit sticky.
A nice surprise, quite some complexity coming from a small Austrian craft brewery. Even has a nice authentic feel, tho i can't say i know how an English Burton Ale felt exactly, more than a century and a half ago. Job well done!
