a baseball pun in the name, get it? i think its made for opening day of the cubs or something, and its pretty solid beer, with the belgian yeast being a little more tame to me than it has been in some of their other belgian beers, and with the mosaic hops really leading the charge. as much as i lament mosaic being overused these days, i also think on the other hand that its wonderful relationship to belgian yeast has not been explored and exploited nearly enough, there is an obvious fit there, and you just dont see that much of it, although i guess belgian ipa is becoming a thing of the past pretty quick here too. the flavor is nice on this bright golden and lively brew, pepper notes from the yeast, clean orange and pineapple from the hops, and lots of winey esters that make it more complex than i thought it was going to be. good flavor from the hops starts pretty early, citra in here too, and while the yeast is known to my palate, its contribution here is great, taking this from somewhat generic to relatively unique, and there is an all season warmth to it that i really like. higher carbonation, dry enough to close, and hoppy without being bitter all the way through. cool beer.
