On-tap at FoBAB 2011. Pretty sure this is Indignant with espresso. Served in my pint-shaped taster glass.
A - A finger-plus of mocha foam settles to a thin cap and thicker collar, leaving a few spots of lace. Body is pitch black.
S - Massive espresso - just absolute nostril-shredding coffee flavor here. The base beer was pretty potent in its own right, but all the bourbon, oak, vanilla, cake, coconut, and chocolate flavors have been pushed to fringes to make way for the espresso.
T - Taste is again heavy espresso, with notes of semisweet chocolate, vanilla, whiskey, and oak rounding out the flavor profile. Avoids the astringency and charry bitterness that plagues other coffee beers I've tried. Not as much alcohol presence as the Indignant.
M - Smooth medium body - seems thinner than the base, and perhaps undersized for a 12.5% Imperial Stout. Lightly dry and tannic finish, with a hint of warming alcohol present.
D - Finally - Haymarket's first home run. I will be trolling their website waiting for this to reappear on-tap, as I need to get a growler or two out to some of my friends, as well as enjoy this delicious beer in a more relaxed setting. It's a shame it has such a moronic name.
