On-tap at Haymarket. Served in a 4oz taster glass.
A - White foam settles to a thin collar, wisps, and no lace. Hazy dark red-brown body. More of a Belgian amber, and sort of a 'tweener when it comes to color and ABV.
S - Belgian yeast, sarsaparilla, hint of maple, and some cocoa malt flavors. As it warms up some of the Thai Chiles come out, imparting a musky aroma - reminds me a little of Half Acre Rainbow Rye.
T - Taste is odd. It's a mix of Belgian brown in the background, but with root beer-esque sarsaparilla, and a bit of grapefruit bitterness in the finish. Alcohol is well-hidden, but otherwise this is somewhat jumbled.
M - Lightly husky medium body, medium-low carbonation, and some warming chile flavors in the finish.
D - Can't say I'm a huge fan. I'm beginning to subscribe to the 'less is more' perspective on brewing, as beers like this (that use a ton of adjuncts) rarely coalesce into something compelling. Might pair well with a specific meal, but otherwise I wouldn't order this again.
