A deliciously refreshing IPA made with all Centennial hops. Named after Barney Kessel, the former proprietor of this very location and long-time owner of the famous Barney’s Market Club. Barney was always sure to make all of his guests feel special, Yes Sir Senator!

On-tap at Haymarket. 4oz taster glass.

A - White foam settles to a thin cap, thick collar, and splotchy lacework. Lightly hazed golden body with a hint of copper to it.

S - Citrus, grapefruit, and orange zest, with a hint of dank and herbs in the periphery. Icing sugar malts in the background.

T - The taste has more grapefruit and less of the orange pulp sweetness from the aroma. Light pine and floral notes mixed in there as well. Not a ton of malt here, with a lightly sugary flavor. Bitterness is present but kept under control.

M - High carbonation, medium body, super dry, with some nice residual hop oils and resins. No discernible alcohol.

D - An enjoyable, albeit "old-school", West Coast IPA. I easily crushed my 4oz taster and I split another with Chris. I'd have this one again, and it's an improvement from the Centennial-Cascade edition of Barney's I had in August 2011.

Served in a nonic pint glass at the brewpub.

Ah, unintentional Flintstones flashbacks... This stuff pours a clear amber-brass topped by a finger of lightly off-white foam. The nose comprises light grapefruit zest, light pine, light greens, and light toffee. Things come across slightly muted, but still intelligible. The taste holds notes of pine, light greens, and some very light toffee in the back. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a dry, lightly sticky finish. Overall, a very nice single-hop offering, probably the highlight of this visit.
