This huge, straw colored lager may make you eager to argue or fight! Brewed with imported Pilsen, Munich, and carapils malts; hopped with Tettnang and Willamette; lagered at 50 degrees; dry-hopped with more Willamette; then stored near freezing for 5 weeks! Yes it's basically a hoppy malt liquor, but who's judging?

Served in a tumbler at the brewpub.

Sometimes the menu here reads like a thesaurus... Anyway, this stuff pours a clear straw topped by over a finger of white foam. The nose comprises flowers, grass, and a very light bit of vague grain. The taste brings in more of the same, with a stronger sense of plastic-y booze pervading, though this luckily doesn't power its way to the fore. The body is a light-leaning medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a drying finish. Overall, yeah, it does indeed come across as a hoppier-than-usual malt lickah that just happens to not suck. Right on.

On-tap at Haymarket. Served in a 4oz taster glass.

A - A finger of white foam features good retention and eventually leaves behind a stray finger or two of lacing. Filtered golden straw body with a few stray bubbles.

S - The aroma is a tad understated, although this was served (perhaps appropriately) very cold. Lightly toasted grains, floral and citrus hopping. Not overly sweet, and alcohol is well-hidden.

T - The taste has a bit more oomph to it, and it's basically a really good malt liquor. Lightly fruity, with buttered biscuit and grain malts. There's no adjunct in this, so you don't get the horrendous corn aftertaste, and there's minimal alcohol presence (although I didn't anticipate much at 7% either).

M - Super smooth medium body, pleasant moderate carbonation. Perhaps a tad sticky in the finish, but no perceptible alcohol burn.

D - A pleasant surprise that I would certainly drink again. Nice, albeit understated, hop aroma, with a clean lager flavor and smooth texture. A well-crafted 'big' American lager.
