Brewed with an abundance of wheat malt, loads of Chinook and Cascade hops and authentic Belgian yeast. Named after Samuel Gompers, the man who founded the AFL and promoted harmony among the different craft unions that comprised it.

On-tap at Haymarket. Served in a 5oz taster glass.
A - Thin white foam settles to a near-complete cap, thick collar, and minimal lacing - perhaps a few specks. Mostly transparent golden body.
S - Peppery and spicy Belgian yeast, wheat, some light pine and grapefruit hops. A bit more dirty and earthy than Haymarket's other Belgians, and also quite understated.
T - Taste is fruitier, with more stone fruit and pale malt sweetness and citrus hop flavors. Less phenolic, but still somewhat peppery, with some wheat and bread in the background. Mildly bitter in the finish.
M - Chewy, with a lightly sticky and resinous finish. Medium body, with active moderate carbonation. No alcohol presence here.
D - Hops have probably faded since this was initially tapped, but it's still a hoppy Belgian. A few less phenols in the aroma would help, but perhaps those were masked by the initial dry-hopping.

Served in a goblet at the brewpub.
Never thought I'd see the day when ol' Sammy Gompers would be immortalized in beer form... Anyway, this stuff pours a hazy gold topped by a finger of lightly off-white foam. The nose comprises light earthy greens, grass, light wheat, and a touch of toffee. The taste holds notes of grass, orange rind, pine resin, light biscuit, and some very light clove in the background. The body is a light-leaning medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a dry finish. Overall, a solid little wheat IPA, though I think the hops overpower whatever wheat aspects could otherwise express themselves.
