On-tap at Haymarket. Served in a 5oz taster glass.
A - Tan foam settles to a near-complete cap, thick collar, and splotchy lacing. Lightly transparent brown at the fringes of the glass, but otherwise a nice near-black.
S - Roasty and dry, slight Brazil nut, with a light burnt toast note in the finish. A touch of cocoa and other roasted nuts in the periphery.
T - Roasty, dry, lightly smokey, with a bit of char, and burnt grains. Fairly low sweetness, as you'd expect from this style.
M - Higher, slightly harsh carbonation. Medium-light body, with dry, gritty, and grainy texture. Slightly burnt and charry.
D - I've never been a huge fan of this style, but this is a pretty good take on the style. There's a bit of sweetness that helps offset the char, but it still gets a bit fatiguing after a while. Not nearly as session-friendly as the Half Bock, unless you're one of those people that loves burnt cookies.
