Congratulations to Kevin Reckamp, our Name The I.P.A. Contest winner! German for quiet or calm, Ruhe was the alleged code word August Spies published in his paper, "Arbeiter-Zeitung" as a call to arms to anarchists on May 4th, 1886. This crisp, hoppy I.P.A. is brewed with Crystal and Cascade hops and is anything but quiet or calm.

On-tap at Haymarket. Served in a 5oz taster glass.

A - Big white foam settles to a thin cap, glass-coating lace. Largely transparent golden orange body.

S - Citrus and light Crystal malt sugary note in the periphery. A tad dank and piney to go with the orange zest and pith hop flavors.

T - The taste is lighter on the Crystal malt, which I like. Pretty much a Cascade bomb, with tons of juicy citrus and light pine notes. A bit of crackery malt in the background. Moderate bitterness, with perhaps a hint of astringency late.

M - Dry, medium body, super resinous and oily in the finish. Pleasant medium carbonation and no discernible alcohol.

D - A well-made, 'classic' American IPA. I could drink this quite often and I think it would make a really excellent year-round 'house' beer, as it's one of my favorite Haymarket IPAs.

Had on tap at Haymarket. Served in a curved pint glass.

A: Pours a semi-clear dark amber color with a thin white head forming on the pour. It recedes to a thin ring that leaves some sticky sheets of lace down the glass.

S: Piney with some grass and some mild resin. Sweet biscuit malts with fruity zest. Slightly sweet as well.

T: Definitive piney notes with some residual bitterness. A little weed and resin with some fruity melon and mango notes. Sweet biscuity malts with a hint of honey glaze. Semi-bitter finish.

M: Medium to light bodied with a dry finish. Medium carbonation level with a sweet and bitter aftertaste.

O: Nice balance between the fruit, sweet and bitter notes. Pretty drinkable as well. I had a second pint of this and I'd probably have another. A must try.
