What is "ReplicAle"? Each year the Illinois Craft Brewer’s Guild selects a beer style for 15 or more brewers to “replicate”. This year all brewers used 100% imported Czech Pilsner malt donated by Mid Country Malt Group & Chico ale yeast donated by White Labs. The difference is in the hops! In this delicious brew we used 3.33lb per barrel of German Saphir hops. Enjoy!

On-tap at Haymarket. Served in a 4oz taster glass.
A - Slightly darker than the Strawberry Patchel; a medium golden body body. A bit more voluminous foam and solid lacing as well. Some visible bubbles rise to the surface.
S - The Saphir hops are definitely present, and quite distinct from your typical American varietals. A mixture of melon, grass, and a bit of earthiness over top of biscuity malt and clean ale yeast. Understated in general.
T - The taste has more grass character to go with the melon and dragonfruit flavors; again, quite understated. This pils malt is definitely more bready and less buttered biscuit than the DryHop ReplicAle. Bitterness is low at first, but it grows and seems to end up higher than the listed 60 IBU.
M - Lower carbonation, smooth texture, and medium-light in body. Seems a bit light for a 7% beer and a bit watery. Hop oils and resins linger on the palate, and not as dry as I would expect either.
D - Needs a bit more spritz, and I'm not convinced Saphir hops were the best choice here. Competently done, but my least favorite ReplicAle so far this year mainly due the the varietal used.
