On-tap at Haymarket. Had a snifter of this one.
A - White foam settles to a thin, near-complete cap, leaving behind splotchy lacework. Transparent amber-bronze body.
S - A nice mix of citrus hops, light zesty herbs and chive in the periphery, and a lightly toasted sugary malt backdrop. On the sweeter side, but not excessively malty.
T - The taste has less malt character and more bright citrus zest and grapefruit bitterness. More hop-forward, which is inverted from the usual IPA experience. Lightly herbal and earthy amid the fruit character, with bitterness creeping into the lower edge of moderate.
M - Dry, medium body, with some residual hop oils and resins on the palate. No alcohol, and crisp, moderate carbonation.
D - This is a pretty nice IPA. Easy to drink, with a good balance of hops and malt. Much better than last year's Pro-Am offerings and one I'd happily drink again. Hopefully it gets co-opted into the regular rotation.
