really solid, my first from these guys, thanks to my parents for picking up at the brewery and bringing all the way out here for me to try, funky looking little 12oz cans, oak barrel aged it says, but makes no mention of whiskey and i dont really smell or taste it, a change of pace from what is more common in the style these days. coal black in the glass, short light tan head, not overly viscous either for the style, nice shine to it, looks deep and well refined. it smells distinctive too, maybe something lightly astringent in the ferment, but a well hidden alcohol strength and very dry for what it is, no real middle malt richness, instead its heavy roast, a hint of smoke, even a black licorice layer, really wintery and it tastes as good as it smells, perhaps a faint hint of red wine, light vanilla from the oak barrels, a toasted aspect, maybe some bitter barrel char too, toasted coconut as it warms, espresso, earthy minerals, i love the bitterness out in front of any residual sugar. fuller bodied as expected, but id still say light for the style, its not permanently stuck to my teeth and tongue or anything, and i think this finishes relatively clean. a great introduction to this brewery, now i am keen to get into some more of their stuff. an awesome night cap after a fun weekend of drinking and hanging out with my family, always appreciate my folks scoring me new beers to try! this is a winner, would love to try some variants too, looks like they do a fair few...
edit: this is holding up pretty well over time, smoothed out, still a little sweet, but mellow and nuanced, caramel and coffee and wet oak, nice roast, light vanilla, very good. this remains the only beer ive had from these guys, need to track down some others, this is really solid.

A really solid barrel aged stout. The flavor is very temperature sensitive. Fresh from the tap it was overly smoky and bland but after a bit of warmth, the barrel aged character comes to the fore and it is a much smoother, very tasty stout.

I'm trying this at the brewery. It poured an opaque dark with tan head that is leaving a spotty lace. The scent had hints of bourbon, roast and chocolate. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with bourbon like presence and roast base. The mouthfeel is medium in body with smooth carbonation. Overall it's a solid beer and worth a try.

Maybe a bottle that went bad? Two year old bomber into a snifter. Over carbed, almost a gusher. This was revolting, tasted infected and smelled horrendous. Drain pour.

Arrives black with a small tan head that fades away rather quickly. No lace.
Smell is rich, malty, rum, candied fruits, molasses.
Taste is the same. Toasted nalt, rum, candied fruit, molasses, vanilla. Well balanced.
Smooth, warming, light effervescence, less than full bodied but not that much, just enough to avoid being cloying. Well worth it.
