It’s a Juicy, Hoppy & Hazy Scene! A Hazy IPA made with Huell Melon and Mandarina Bavaria hops from Germany. Shicki Micki features an abundance of melon and tropical fruit flavors without any of the associated bitterness. Notes of tangerine, grapefruit and lime are present.

Let's get to the good points--the glass half full. The beer is moderately hazy, the flavor is crisp, refreshing. There is low-key melon, citrus and a touch of tangerine present in the flavor. Now the glass is half empty. The flavor is fairly weak, a long way from robust. There is no complexity or nuance with how the hop and malt flavors unfold--they're just there. Using a Bavarian hop in something billed a New England IPA is also...uh, interesting.

Notes via stream of consciousness: So what is this? A NEIPA? Ahh, brewed with Huell Melon and Mandarina Bavaria - interesting. It's poured a very hazy golden body beneath a massive head of white foam that settled down into an inch or so of creaminess following the second pour. The orange of the Mandarina Bavaria is a little more evident in the aroma than the melon of the Huell, but they're both there. There's a bit of an actual yeast flavor to it as well which isn't really that pleasant. On to the flavor, as you might expect the malt is basic and just lightly sweet and mildly grainy/biscuity. The Huell Melon comes through stronger in the flavor than the aroma suggests, and probably even eclipses most of the orange from the Mandarina Bavaria. A firm bitterness balances it and it finishes mainly dry. In the mouth it's medium in body leaning toward medium-light, and gently crisp and then smooth. Overall it's pretty nice although the yeast is distracting. Given the price - - - and I normally never mention the price because it's really all about the beer - - - I'd question buying it again.
