Handsome red-brown color in the Bacchus heavy tumbler. Quite adequate foam and a spritzy mouthfeel. A wee bit syrupy but clear and has a tangy sharp ending. That roasty malt flavor is endless but has that dark edge that goes with the bitter hop aftertaste.

Strong and malty. I like this better than unamplified Schwarzbier. It's an unusual concept, but works well. Somehow this retains the dry Schwartz character rather than tasting like a big Stout. Burnt sugar with a twiggy, charred taste.

From the 32 oz jug purchased at the Morena brewing facility.

On tap at the Orange Street brewpub location.
An "Imperial Schwarzbier" made in collaboration with Monkey Paw. IBU = 60

Pours near black with a good, durable head that leaves loads of sticky lacing.

Aroma: fruity dark malts; moderate complexity; high appeal; high ABV partly apparent.

Taste: fairly rich malty flavor with ints of brandy, coffee and dark fruits.
Nice light bitterness. Essentially no burnt grain.

O: excellent if a bit bitter for style.
