This beer is amazing, unbelievable that it didn’t get enough reviews yet...
This is a tremendous San Diego IPA, and Coronado does its job to make it remarkable, something you won’t forget. It is indeed dank and resinous, intense and so fruity - and the best thing about it is that even though it’s a Double IPA at 8.5, you don’t feel any booziness or any of the aggressiveness that sometimes so typical of Double IPAs, it’s almost like an IPA, an amazing one indeed! To be honest I’ve been trying to postpone this but I’m glad I finally decided to try it - and I would encourage anyone to do so!

If I have professed an affinity for shopping at my local, the Friendly Greek Bottle Shop (FGBS), in the past, then it only seems fitting to also mention my (approximately) once-a-month visit to Flanagan's Boathouse & Down Under Bottle Shop in Conshohocken, PA. I (generally) attend a monthly bottle share & by coming in on Friday night, my host & I usually go there, followed by a trip into their bottle shop. A lot of my Navy memorabilia now resides on display at their place.
From the CAN: "Art Series"; "Tube City Double IPA is brewed with Simcoe, Mosaic, and Centennial hops for wave after wave of resiny dankness, and a lingering tropical finish."; "60 IBUS".
This just sounded so good on the face of it that I could barely wait to Crack! the vent open & begin a Glug. I chose to go with a slow, gentle, C-Line Glug since I wanted to see how it would respond. It returned my favor by forming two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head with very good retention, but not much lacing. Color was a solid Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9) with NE-quality clarity. BUPGOO! Nose was a reminder of what I am really coming to enjoy in the modern AIPA era: an admixture of pine and tropical fruit as Simcoe the Naughty Kitty peeked in while doing her business. I have grown entirely tired of tropical AIPAs since they lack the bitterness that was what drew me into the style initially. Here, the tropical fruitiness was tempered by the pine-y dankness & then sprayed upon by little Simcoe. 8=O Mouthfeel was full, but not quite creamy. I still allowed it to roll around on my tongue. The Centennial hops were more reserved than I might have preferred, but then again, so were the Mosaic hops. Instead, Simcoe the Naughty Kitty was all over everything! You had best have an affinity for cattiness going into this one. Me? I dig Simcoe! To my way of thinking, cattiness is preferable to tropical fruitiness. That is not to say that pine mintiness was not present, but amazingly, it was not in the lead. At least, not until the cool, minty, refreshing finish. OMFG! Finish was cool and dry, something else that I have missed, terribly. I had almost forgotten just how cool and minty Centennial hops were before this whipped me back around and opened my eyes. Phew. This was a no-playin'-around beer that caught me with its sucker punch. It got me with a rope-a-dope that I did not see coming! It was great, but be aware as you delve into this beauty!
