Drinking it now from a crowler sealed at the brewery 48 hours ago.
L:Pours a dark red, nearly opaque but not hazy, thin but persistent head, ample carbonation.
S:Dried fruit and beer
T:Toffee, caramel, dried fruit, woody hops (but not piney), some slightly herbaceous hops. Long sweet finish of malt and fruit balanced by hop bitterness. I love it, but it is on the slightly sweet side. Absolutely clean and free of fermentation character. No stressed yeast flavors, no hard cider edge. I'm assuming the house strain is Chico and it was used here. I can't believe the ABV is 12.75%
F:Thick, heavy, just the right amount of co2 to lighten it up.
O:Overall, this is an amazing beer. So strong, so clean, beautifully balanced. It's easier going than Fat Hog, but I would have to have them side by side to decide which I like better. Craft barley wine, like craft quads, are often the worst thing on tap - total train wrecks. Not here obviously.
