Canned on 1/29/20. 16oz can poured into a tulip. Pours black with a creamy khaki head that sticks around leaving great thick retention and sticky lacing. The aromas are on the mild and subtle side. Faint berry notes. Some cocoa and marshmallow. Lots of malts. The aromas slightly open up as it warms up a bit. The flavors are bit bolder compared to the nose. The berries come through without completely dominating. I'm definitely picking up some raspberries. Some milk chocolate and vanilla. It's slightly sweet, but nothing crazy or cloying. It's not really tart at all. Strong malt backbone. Alcohol is ultimately well hidden and basically goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is full-bodied with moderate to low carbonation. It's extremely fluffy, slightly creamy and pretty smooth. This one is dangerously drinkable.

This is a solid imperial stout. It's honestly nothing too crazy, but it's simply enjoyable and fun to drink. The berries ultimately shine without taking over. Not bad.

Appearance - Pours near black with cola brown edging. Tan, finger width head that hangs nicely, settling to a thin, broken layer of suds. A Few broken lines and small spots make up the lacing.

Smell - Chocolate, and a sweet, slightly tart berry aroma. Hint of booze.

Taste - Follows the nose. Fair strength of flavor that displays a chocolate cake batter character, followed shortly by a medley of sweet and faintly tart berry notes. Finish comes quicker than expected, but aftertaste still lingers with those chocolate and berry notes.

Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with fair carbonation. slick, easy drinker with a trace of creaminess before a slightly dry finish.

Overall - Lighter, both in flavor and texture, by comparison to most imperial pastry stouts, and yet I really like it. The flavors just work well together.

The beer is smooth, dark and sweet.
Notes of vanilla, cocoa nibs play wonderfully on the tongue. The boysenberries do not make the beer tart at all. The smell is semi-sweet, no hints of boysenberry or blackberries. It's not bitter, very drinkable. Great dark color, like the color of black licorice. Poured it hard, the foam ross right over the glass. Poured it into a nice, chilled tulip glass. One of the most creative designs on a can of beer I have seen. Purchased a four pack of 16.9 oz cans, they were delicious. It is by far one of my new favorite beers. I have been a stout, porter, dopplerbock guy since I began drinking. My top favorites always darks. If you enjoy milk stouts, barley wines, imperial stouts, this pastry stout is delightful. Cheers!
