The Wizard Mode IPA will be a cans only release. Hazy New England IPA. VERY Fruity. We added a healthy amount of Callista Hops to this one, brand new and super fruity and fresh on the nose.

Wizard Mode from Beaver Brewing. 16 fl oz can. Purchased online from Beaver Brewing, Beaver Falls, PA, 24/11/24. $ 6.44 (Including tax and shipping), $ 0.40/ fl oz. Reviewed 07/12/24 (Review 3412). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Undated can. Stored at 39 degrees F at home. Served at 45.3 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 57.0 degrees F.
Appearance – 4
First pour – Pale Straw (SRM 2), clear
Body – Pale Gold (SRM 4), slight haze. Under direct light, same with slight precipitate present. When rear-lite, same.
Head: Large (Maximum 5.7 cm, aggressive center pour), white. High density and creamy. Slowly drops to a 0.5 - 0.9 cm crown and a large, heaped, island of bubbles. Three dimensional arcs remain above the crown.
Lacing – Fair. Band of mostly tiny to small bubbles.
Aroma – 4 – Slightly fruity hops. No malt, no ethanol (No ABV marked on label, nor on the website).
Flavor – 4 – Begins lightly fruity, ends slightly bitter with a bit of malt. No gastric warming.
Palate – 4 – Thin; watery; initially lively carbonation (I rolled the can to resuspend the expected haze) but it drops back as the glass breathes.
Style: Follows the style guidelines as condensed by BA.
Final impression and summation: 3.75 (After deducting 0.25 point for an undated personal container) Lack of information (can date, ABV) is regrettable. Both flavor and aroma are better than I expected from a semi-local brewery.

Dark, golden body with slight haze; nice, thick head, sticky and foamy. Sweet, berry and fruit aroma. Fine flavor, mild cereal grain base but with a strong hop presence; citrus and bold bitterness. Medium body; dry and prickly on the palate.

There is no current ABV information on this IPA, but the brewery's web site mentions Callista hops being used and supposedly very fruity across the board. I don't pick up on any heavy let alone extreme fruitiness. The brewery also states this is a hazy NEIPA, but there is so little haze that I might attribute what I see to a scratchy glass. The beer really appears more like a classic west coast IPA in appearance as well as taste. Regardless of style confusion, the beer itself is top notch with great balance and depth, not overly fruity or bitter yet delivers a satisfying American IPA.
