This beer is deemed an exclusive to Tavour. I thought what the heck I will give it a try. A rum barrel-aged stout and not imperial, that was my draw to this beer. I want this beer to keep up with those stouts that are industry standards, like Zonkers from Snake River. The beer is 46 degrees and served in a pint glass. The pour of the beer created a two-fingered light tan head. The airy and creamy head dissipated quickly, leaving nothing on the sides of the glass. The color of the beer is SRM 32, a dark brown with onyx hues. I wanted the head of the beer to last longer than two seconds.
The aromas in the beer are chocolate, peanut butter, rum, vanilla, cherries, char, a touch of earth, mild coffee, wood, toffee, caramel, bready, medium roasted malts, and a hint of solvents.
The flavors in the beer are rum, chocolate, peanut butter, pharmaceutical, vanilla, char, Maillard, solvent, dank basement, coffee, chocolate, medium roasted malts, smoky, toffee, caramel, bready, cooked veggies, and stone fruit.
The mouthfeel of the beer is tannic and dry.
The body of the beer is medium-light, medium carbonation, and a medium finish.
Where do begin, first, this beer is horrible. This stout is at the bottom of any stout I have drunk thus far. The beer has the consistency of a porter and more carbonation than I prefer in a stout. The cook veggies flavors in the beer told me something went wrong. Why would a brewer can a batch of beer that has odd flavors?. I would dump this batch down the drain, regardless of the cost, it is not worth sending this out to customers. I was looking forward to enjoying this beer and not tearing it down. Avoid this beer and try something different.
