I had a 330ml bottle.
Appearance : a hazy consistency with dark orange colour. Short off white head. Looks great.
Aroma : great yeast aromas and excellent citrus hop aroma. I mainly smell mandarins though the brewer says that the aromas are peach and apricot. I can see how that follows as well. Quite unique.
Flavour: excellent dry hop stringent bitterness is most prominent across the mouth. This is over layered with sweetness of the citrus flavours from the hops. I am left with a strong bitter finish exactly as I like for an IPA.
Overall : an excellent IPA the first I can say I have had that personally gave me mandarin like hop overtones in the aroma and flavour. Excellent balance and full bodied mouth feel flavour and aroma.

Hazy amber with almost no carbonation, and 2 fingers of yellowish head.

Smells of pine, oranges, and burnt sugar. Very malt forward for an IPA. A little floral note as well.

Again, tastes very malt forward for an IPA. Burnt sugar, creme brulee, and a dull bitter finish. Oranges, citrus, pine needles, but not really fresh, just muted and bitter.

Medium, biscuit body, medium low carbonation.

Got this 2 weeks ago in Perth, Australia, drinking it up in Chiang Mai, Thailand. I think the brew is old, which stinks, because I went to Australia to pick it up. No BBD on the can. I was recommended this by the guy at the bottle shop. He was right on my other choices, but not with this one! Sept 6th, 2017.

I was sure that I had tried most of the Mornington Peninsula brews until I realised I was actually thinking about Prickly Moses for some reason [and I was probably drunk]. Regardless the aptly, some would perhaps say: boringly named, IPA has recently found its way into my tiny new housemate’s fridge where I can only fit a maximum of 3 cans/bottles at a time lest I upset demons unbeknownst to God and man, which is coincidentally a good way to lose weight (I call it the “tiny fridge diet - Patent Pending”) so it’s time to add to my Mornington Peninsula repertoire with this: their “I-really-need-a-clever-pun-name-now” IPA.

Poured from an oddly 330ml (in Australia the land of 375ml) can into a Duvel tulip.

A: Presents a hazed brown-tinged amber body with a foamy 2 cm off-white head which scales back to 1 cm leaving some decent lacing on the side of the glass. Head bubbles are a bit OTT but the rest is good. 7/10.

S: Tropical fruit: Pineapple and papaya spring to mind, along with some chewy caramel centre and earthy notes towards the finish. A touch of dustiness comes across from the earthy hops and the whole aroma tends to take on a dirty/earthy/dusty vibe for better (or worse - I happen to not mind my beers and martinis dirty but it is an eclectic preference for others). 7/10.

T: Dirty/earthy/dusty with some nuttiness thrown in - almost a Brown Ale/IPA hybrid, however the tropical hops noted above take a real backseat here, and some punk-ass piney characters drop in towards the finish to give it that “hey it’s an IPA mate!” assertive bitterness. The whole balance is all over the shop like an angry rhesus macaque with a chainsaw causing insane amounts of property damage whilst upsetting the shopkeepers pregnant wife causing her to go into premature labour [phew that was one of my most elaborate metaphor capers yet!]. 6/10.

M: Almost medium bodied with a thin/light carbonation, nothing exciting. 6/10.

D: So the TL;DR (the take-away point if you will): If you want an IPA these days there are a plethora, no a MULTITUDE of excellent choices so I wouldn’t go out of my way for Mornington Peninsula’s IPA, though it is not bad by any stretch, it is by this experienced IPA drinkers opinion an average at best representation of the style. Also possibly the dusty-dirty-earthiest (as if dirt was literally scoped into the fermentation vats during brewing) IPAs on this planet - if that’s your kind of thing I say “Do it!”. 7/10.

Food match: Moss or lichen? Seriously a hearty stew with mushrooms will do.

what a beer - definitely exceeded my expectations: big, bold, well balanced and delicious

aroma: musky/malty with big fruit: peach, melon, apricot and slight grapefruit

taste: orange, malt, grapefruit, peach, apricot, spice, slight bitter milk chocolate, slight melon and slight brown sugar. To sum it up - A rich fruitiness layered in delicious malt.

At present, my favourite Australian IPA.

330ml bottle poured into pint glass 7/4/14

A thick and murky dark amber with plenty of sediment being moved around by a couple bubbles here and there, a finger of foam sits around long enough to leave a pair of rings

S tangerine and apricots, a hint of pine, caramel, faint floral aspect, vitamin c chewables, a little cracker, doesn't smell that strong though, could use some intensity

T a little lemon rind, more vitamin c chewables, has a little more flavour then smell, not as floral but a little herbal in the mouth

M lighter side of medium, enough carbonation to give it some life, very gritty after the fact with lingering citrus rind

O respectable brew but nothing really stands out, not flawed in any way but not really memorable, decent, drinkable IPA

I've had a few from these guys and was excited for their flagship IPA and although its a decent brew its not quite at the same level of the others I've had

On tap at the brewery.

A: Served a hazy bronze color with a good head that fades to some lacing.

S: Aroma of pine, some citrus and fruity with a bit caramel.

T: Taste of pine and citrys with fruit and bit of caramel sweetness. Has a nice bitterness and a clean finish.

F: Medium body, crisp and nicely balanced. Flavor is enhanced as it warms.

O: Very good IPA. Worth checking out.

From Warner's. No BB.

Pours a deep amber, with a lovely two finger head until the sediment which I had not noticed in the bottle plumpe dinto the head making it a black splodge. Oh Dear. Great sheet lace - unusual for a bottle beer.

Aromas of peach, citrus, pine.

Taste is dull and stale sadly. Pine notes overwhelm and there is a hop bite but overall the beer comes across as a shadow of what it could be. A little citrus. One dimensional, really.

Mouthfeel is undercarbonated. A little oily.

Was looking forward to this one - must try another....

Bottle from Local Provisions in Melbourne.

A - Pours dark copper. One finger of eggshell head fades to a film fast. Good carbonation coming up. Bright. Small amount of lace and a film of retention.

S - Caramel, peach, citrus. Strong hops with a touch of that rich maltiness.

T - Big hops with pine, citrus, tropical fruits, peaches, resins and some caramel. Malt plays a good role controlling everything with some sweetness in the front, but the hops are also very aggressive. Nice and tasty.

M - Nice carbonation, medium body and quite a high bitterness.

O/D - A really nice IPA. Well done with all the elements (gentle sweetness and some great hops) I would look for an IPA. Extremely drinkable and stays interesting throughout.

Drank from my Duvel Tulip

A - Pours a deep Orange/ Amber colour almost Barleywine like in appearance. The head is off White and one fingered. No lacing.

S - Sweet malt dominated aromas of marmalaide, burnt caramel, toffee and a little hop.

T - Up front some nice malts that are a little sweet. A little hop presence. .The end does have that IPA bitterness to it but should be preceeded by more of a hop flavour.

M - Medium body and low to medium carbonation.

O - Not clean or crisp enough for me. It reminds me of some English IPA's that are more malt than hop.Worth a try though.
