Nearly as mysterious as it is divine, Tin Roof Brewing conjures up the tandem of Citra and Simcoe hos along with a complex grain bill for a smooth, rounded and seamless session of divine hoppiness.

Dense and cloudy with golden taupe pastel hues, Santeria pours creamy with a dense ivory blanket of foam. As the hoppy perfume drifts across the nose, the fruity aromas of citrus, tropical, herbal and stone fruits abound. Sweeter though in taste, the early impressions of cookie dough, honey, cereal and shortbread all come to mind.

And then a return of hops bring a fruit-filled middle palate of fresh picked oranges, red grapefruit, mango and apricot in juicy fashion. Not to be outdone, a sharper side of hops bring elements of bitter white grapefruit, lemon pepper, tea and deeply resinous pine. As the malts linger, their sweetness balances the peppery hop bitterness for a smoothly hoppy finish.

Medium-full and creamy throughout, the ale finishes on the malty side of malty-dry with a bitter-sweet balance. A slight warmth of botanical gins give a spicy closure with an extension of citrus fruit peels.

Color is a nice shade of orange. Head was bright white but faded quickly. No lacing. Nose is full on tangerine. Taste was not as citrusy as the nose, but still had citrus overtones. ABV was slightly evident.

Santeria has a thick, off-white head, a murky, opaque pale orange-yellow appearance, and moderate glass lacing. The aroma is of fruity hop resins and cereal grains. The flavor is similar, with strong bitterness. Santeria has a heavy body and a medium-dry finish.

Initial impression for a 12 fl oz pull-tab can packaged 08/24/20:

Sold in 4 packs in New Orleans, LA for $8.99 USD plus tax.

"Double India Pale Ale" brewed with Citra, Simcoe, and El Dorado hops. 8.75% ABV.

Juicy, bursting with citrus, lychee, and (other) tropical fruit including mango, orange, and tangerine. Really brings the Citra and El Dorado hops to the table, uncompromising in terms of depth of flavour. The Simcoe only seems to contribute vague tropical fruit, not its sometimes signature oniony/garlicky flavour - which will probably please many drinkers.

Medium-bodied yet refreshing with a delightfully soft texture. Smooth, wet, well carbonated. Not sticky or syrupy. Not boozy or hot at all even at 8.75% ABV. It's remarkably drinkable for its ABV.

Look out, Parish and Courtyard - Tin Roof is stealing the limelight...this might be the best IIPA brewed in Louisiana. I'll certainly have no trouble plowing through my 4-pack.

High B- (3.50) / WORTHY

My favourite IIPA from Louisiana to date...good stuff.
