Here in Louisiana, the name “Holy Trinity” means a few things! The brewers at Tin Roof decided to throw their hats in the ring by creating a thick and hazy Double India Pale Ale with 3 distinct hops.
Born from a base of pale malts, the conquering characteristic of this ale is the intense citrus bitterness contributed by Citra, Galaxy, and Nectaron Hops. Citra, now a standard in the Hazy IPA game, shines on with intense bittering and a wallop of lemon zest. Galaxy Hops come on strong at first with brash citrus and passionfruit, but mellow with undertones of peach. Nectaron Hops hail from New Zealand and bring a cornucopia of fruit influences to the table, notably stone fruit, grapefruit, and orange.

In the culinary world, the cajun holy trinity has a certain meaning. But in the beer world, Tin Roof brewers have another trio of flavors in mind. Made with Citra, Nectaron and Galaxy hops, this culinary delight has a special kind of kick.

Brewed to imperial strength, the hazy Holy Trinity gets going with a lemony meringue appearance while enticing the senses with a fresh, bright and tropical scent. Laced with aromatic citrus, white wine and hemp, the ale soon greets the palate with a smooth and creamy cereal impression with hints of honey and wafer.

Then the hops build up as the ale reaches the middle palate. Bursting with under ripened oranges and mangoes, white grapefruit and lemon, the taste highly favors the grapefruit. But with a backdrop of passionfruit, kiwi and green papaya, the nearly tangy side of hops show up. Trending herbal with verbena, sassafras, cedar and hemp, the late turn to bitterness remains smooth and grapefruit-like.

Medium-full and pleasantly creamy even as the ale dries, the trinity of hops finish on the bitter side of bitter-sweet with a malty-dry texture that's aided by its gin-like collection of botanical spice.

Pours a pale yellow, almost the color of dried straw. Nose is similar to grape fruit juice. Taste was more bland than I thought it would be. Must admit I am disappointed in this beer. I do reserve the right to revisit this review at a later date on 2nd can.
