With a style of beer that has origins in the mid-1700's and has developed a few off-shoots of confidence, inclusion and perfection along the way, the path well worn with lager should be an easy endeavor for any capable brewer nowadays. Tin Roof takes a stab at the light German lager style just for dad.

Darker than usual and pouring with a peculiar haze, Gifts 4 Dad pours richer than expected. As a foamy white cap builds on the rim, the scent of light bread, light and spicy hops, over ripened fruit and a general musty grain drifts across the nose with a richer scent as well. Sweeter with notions of honey, bread and dough, the early palate shows a off-placed biscuit character.

As the unique flavors roll along the middle palate, the flavors remain dull and lumbring as the taste of red apple, bruised pear, over ripened apricot and weathered peach stew on the palate in macerated and over-cooked form. Hints of buttered biscuit shows up before the taste turns bitter with grasses, lemon pepper and parsley in a disjointed and uneven taste.

Medium bodied and leaving a bitter coat of bruised fruit on the palate, this lager simply falls short of expectations. Lacking the crisp, clean and refreshing nature of the light lager style, this session is a lot of work. A stale bread and honey finish leads to an unnecessarily long aftertaste of unfit and bitter fruit.

Pours typical golden color. Not much of head produced. Nose was kind of sweet and bready. Taste was also slightly sweet and bready. Decent beer. Easily chuggable, especially the lower ABV.
