02/08/18 date, I assume best by? Likely from August 2017 maybe? So roughly 2 months old, assuming...
A: Pours a very dark brown with an absolutely humongous brown head. Easily 90% head and 10% liquid at the start. Gradually settles down, very slowly. Not much in the way of lacing, however.
S: Smells about what you'd expect for a BSDA. Some dark fruits, some heavy dark bread, some light earthy spices and lotttsss of sugar.
T: Sugary right off the bat. Dark fruits, raisins and...hmmm. Plums I think? Yeah, plums. A little sweetness runs out and you get a decent breadiness. It kinda reminds me of raisin bread. Thinner on the back end, a little earthy spice and sort of an abrupt finish. Almost nothing in the aftertaste, just some plums maybe?
M: Very thin mouthfeel. Almost feels bland as a result. Definitely the biggest detraction.
O: Hmph, not a bad BSDA. It's tasty but the super thin body/resulting blandness really hurts it. A lot of potential but not quite fulfilled.

Dark brown with an amber tinge, cloudy, topped with a finger of beige head.
Musty, umami, miso, sweet toffee, cherries, prunes. Light floral notes.
Dusty, prunes, not sweet as the nose but rather umami, black liquorice, soy sauce.
Medium light body, lots of Belgian like foamy carbonation.
Got on wish beer, trying with miso soup. A solid and unique brew with Belgian and Japanese characteristics. Drank May 24th, 2016.

Brewed I believe by Van den Bossche for OWA (but I might be wrong!).
15th Dec 2013, from a bottle at the 18th Christmas beer festival in Essen.
Beige head on a very dark body.
Coffee esters in the nose along with mild chocolate notes. The yeast also has an aroma which adds an extra dimension to the smell.
The taste follows the aromas, the yeast and dark malty flavours blending together nicely. Dry and roasted malts more than a sweet malty brew, this is a solid beer for the winter months and I enjoyed my sample very much.

Okay.. The 4 for taste is for the Kuro on tap. It's slightly richer and deeper than the bottled Kuro, and had just a nit more of a malt backbone. I would give the bottled a 3.75.
The following review is of the BOTTLED Kuro:
Pours a deep, blood red - almost black - with a beautiful, Guinness-like head and amazing lacing.
Mostly dark fruits in the nose, predominantly raisins, currants and figs.
Almost like a cross between a German dunkel lager and Belgian dark ale. Subdued, sweet malt upfront followed by a burst of figs and raisins. Finishes clean, crisp and somewhat jammy with a tart bitterness much akin to plum skin.
Mouthfeel is satisfyingly creamy and full.
Overall a decent brew, although I didn’t find it very representative of the claimed style. I don’t see myself having this much, although it was definitely worth the try.

Bought a bottle of this from the Tobu department store in Ikebukuro, Tokyo. Poured into a Baird pint glass. Enjoyed the thin, dark head on this with a taste of soy sauce lingering in the aftertaste. Very thick like a stout, but strong enough to function as a Belgian strong ale. Left a little dark lacing around the glass. Beautiful brew, and if you can find it, I recommend picking it up for a try.
