Cask pint at Wetherspoons, London Victoria Station. Cloudy orange-brownish colour, low off-white head. Very moderate aroma, a little malts, a hint of butter. Minimal carbonation, poor condition. Initially dull flavour, quite dry. Some earthy hops in the finish cannot save the beer from falling in the "boring" category. Daleside can do better than this - and JDW should serve their beers in better condition. Could not finish the pint.

L- Pale chestnut, pours clear with 5mm white head. [ps 10mins later, holding very well].
S- Mild, I just get some breadiness from it.
T- That's a bit more like it. Some robust malts and into a trad hoppy facet into the finish. I haven't read the lable yet but it tastes like an English Bitter
F- It has a good feel considering it's modest ABV. Plus a decent trad taste as well. Carbonation in the mouth is high
O- I was preparing to be underwhelmed with this. So many sub (say) 4.5% beers I've had recently have been a let-down, usually coming over as thin and unrewarding. This one is entirely different. It has an unusually punchy level of roasty-toasty malt, which is balanced with solid trad hopping. The hopping leaves a slight zing on the palate, so even at 4.2% the noted taste and feel combine to almost imitate a higher ABV beer, perhaps about 5% or so. That might sound inconsequential but IME brewing a 4.2% to present like a c5% is a *very* rare achievement.
The end result is a very sessionable trad beer that delivers (thanks Santa!) notably more than you might expect. Nice, I'd happily drink this again.
500ml bottle. BB: Oct-2021 Bought from TremblingMadness/York for home delivery as part of a large DIY mixed-case (or 3) to London.
