I recall discovering beers from the Daleside brewery at the Great Yorkshire Show a few years back, and have loved their output ever since. Pride of England seems like a good choice for my first addition to BA. I'm not sure how many years this beer has been in production, but it seemed to become more prominent during the world cup season last year - probably an attempt to capitalise on football fever.
A 500ml bottle with a BB of June 2011. The front label features the flag of St. George with the name superimposed on it.
Poured into a Sam Smith's pint glass. A golden amber colour with slight haziness. Medium carbonation, and a small head of white foam that lingers for a couple of minutes. An aroma of light malt with a hint of grain. Notes of floral hops and faint bitterness.
A light malt flavour balanced by refreshing hoppy bitterness. Floral and citrus notes. Mouthfeel gives a mild tingly sensation with some astringency. Satisfying aftertaste of hoppy bitterness.
A lovely beer with a well-balanced character. Great hop flavour but not overpowering. If Pride of England were actually chosen to represent EPAs, I think it would do the job rather well. Ideal for warm summer days...
