Amber ale forgotten during 2 years, 10 months and 27 days in a Vin Jaune (yellow wine from Jura region in France) barrel, arguably from mixt fermentation.
Brewed the 20th of December 2011.
Had this twice, first time was at Vini Birre Ribelli 2014 in Brussels. Review is from the second try at Moeder Lambic.
A: Pours amber, cloudy with very little foam. It was foamy the first time, I guess the proteins have been eaten by the wild bacterias.
S: Smell of hay, nut and soaked fruits. Grapes, raisins and some sourness. A bit of lactiness as it warms. Strong, excellent and unexpected nose!
T: Taste is even stronger. Reminding of an oud bruin, but the style is very hard to define. Malty, fruity and above us focused on the nuts from the Vin Jaune barrel. Some yellow fruits, some soaked fruits and orange peels. Complex and balanced. Lovely.
M: Carbonation is on the lower side of the scale, mouthfeel is supporting the flavor pretty well with a decent body.
O: Awesome beer, very surprising and quite unique. I hope this will be rebrewed again. It's a very good example of what could be made with barrel ageing regarding the possibilities in France.
