Kolsch

this is an easy drinking light beer here, maybe not the lightest kolsch in the world though, and of the three white bluffs beers i had in a recent session, this was the least impressive of them. it drinks more like a blonde to me, without the obvious german character from the grain and the yeast, and it runs just a little sweeter than i generally want my kolsch to be. that said, its another well made beer from these guys and one that im sure has a very wide appeal. for all the cool local beers i had in eastern washington, i had very few light ones, so maybe they have found a niche with this one. this just lacks the crispness that would make it refreshing and crushable in hot weather, but it has plenty of malt flavor for being as pale as it is, a little honey and a little cereal thing going on, and the noble hops on the back end are bright and fresh and really define this one, but the dosing is fully appropriate. i wish it had a little more of that cold conditioned briskness that the best examples of the style do, but its not a bad beer at all, just somewhat less exciting than the others i had from these guys. good carbonation and a grounding mineral composition underneath it all.
