A Wyoming Whiskey barrel aged Imperial Scotch Ale that has been aged for 12 months. English strong ale is a rich, complex malty sweet beer with hints of figs, raisins, dark fruits and balanced with a dry alcohol finish. Barrel aging will impart bourbon flavors of wood, coconut, vanilla, caramel, licorice, brown sugar and cinnamon. These nuances will be noticeable in the aroma and aftertaste. Barrel aged beers are very complex and intense. They should be enjoyed over a longer period of time to allow the beer to warm up and change in complexity. It is not meant to be consumed quickly.

Maybe a year on this bottle? My first from this brewery.

Poured into a tulip a pretty nice translucent brown color, pretty nice carbonation, with a nice quick/small tan head, which leaves an medium size island/oil slick, with some minimal sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, with a nice dark fruit complex (cherries, figs, dates, raisins, plums), with some vanilla, whiskey, oak, licorice. The taste is pretty nice, malty, with some nice dark fruit complex (cherries, figs, dates, raisins, plums), nice touch of whiskey/oak, nice vanilla sweetness, licorice. Full Body, ABV hidden pretty nicely, a nice complex brew. Overall, a pretty tasty brew. Glad to have gotten a chance to try it. Thanks Bill!

I cut through Wyoming on my way back to Denver from Nebraska last year, and picked up this curiosity at a bottle shop in Cheyenne. Since it is a Scottish/wee heavy, I will presume that the namesake year is in honor of Robert the Bruce's victory over Edward II at Bannockburn, which more or less secured Scottish independence after it looked for a while as if the Scots would go the way of Wales and be subsumed by Plantagenet England (I like history).

Dense, dark brown color with reddish highlights and a thin tan head that soon dissipates to nothing. Nose is dark brown malt, whiskey, dark fruit, caramel, and smoke. Lots going on here, as might be expected.

Super sweet and boozy up front but the aging has mellowed this a bit and it rounds out to a relatively clean but tasty aftertaste. Figs, plums, vanilla, oak, licorice and caramel appear on the back end. Surprisingly lacking in harshness and extremely smooth for almost twelve percent on the booze o meter. I'll likely not see this again, but would snatch it up if I did.

Look- pours cola brown with a auburn tinges around the edges; 1/2 finger head that recedes to a thin ring; no lacing

Aroma- butterscotch, toffee, vanilla, bourbon

Taste- follows nose closely with the vanilla being predominant but not overwhelming; bourbon enhances the other flavors, but isn't too strong or boozy; also getting a faint hint of bitterness toward the end

Feel- medium bodied, low/medium car, long sweet finish

Overall- very well done BBA Scotch ale in which the bourbon compliments the other flavors rather than dominating.

Imperial Scotch Ale this year.

It pours a a very dark brown with reddish hues, minimal amount of foam with very little lacing. Higher abv beers usually do suffer from lack of foam and lacing.

Super malty but also super whiskey nose. Hey, it's relatively fresh. The caramel is accompanied by some dark pitted fruit which I reckon will come out more given some time, and vanilla with some notes of oak, so maybe I spoke too soon.

Whiskey, caramel malt, dark fruits, no peat or smoke which are more typically noticed in Scotch Ales. Not super complex at this stage. I am starting to get a bit of vanilla and oak.

Medium body with lightish carbonation.

Good now. What does the future hold for a cellared 2017 1314? Anyone's guess.
