Appearance: Lightly clouded, walnut brown body with a sparse, bubbly, off-white head.

Smell: Light though persistent scent of dark, roasty malts with plenty of chocolate tones, both from the malts utilized as well as the generous addition of chocolate. Distant dried fruit notes.

Taste: Dark and roasted maltiness with a moderate amount of sweetness running through it. Raisiny fruitiness. Presents a pleasant raw chocolate flavor from the addition of cacao nibs and cocoa powder, though it takes a second to reach you. No appreciable hop flavor or bitterness. Finishes smooth and with further tastes of chocolate and roast.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.

Drinkability: Their standard Deep Water D-bock was somewhat of a different take on the style, sporting a fair degree of roasted and chocolate malts. Now, it's served up with actual chocolate! Thomas Creek, they really like their doppelbocks chocolatey, don't they?

Had this from a firkin at Barley's (upstairs) in Greenville back in the fall, but forgot to add this one from my tasting notes.

Pours very dark brown with very little light coming through. 1-finger head fades quickly. Leaves attractive faint lacing on the sides of my standard pint glass.

Strong cocoa in the nose, but more indicative of coke than chocolate. Roast malt, piney hops, and brown sugar round things out. Very nice.

Thin hit quickly turns flavorfull. Big chocolate malt flavor with piney hops in the finish. Slighty fizzy and tart.

Very nice body for the style. Slightly thin, but I think that helps.

Very easy drinker for 8%. Hides the ABV very well. Very nice effort from the Creek.
