330 ml bottle, No. 1101, BB date 31.10.2013, from CITTI-Markt Flensburg. ABV is 6.4%, hop is Fuggles. Hazy dark reddish brown colour, moderate off-white head. Strong sweetish aroma of caramel malts, hints of molasses. The sweet flavour is also dominated by caramel malts and molasses, while a slight fruity acidity helps the drinkability. Hardly any bitterness. Not a favourite of mine.

After living in Germany on and off over the last decade, I have long amused German friends with my longing for American small batch brews and my insistence that German beer was better than any large American company swill, but inferior to the beer I actually drink in America coming from small-scale local breweries. Here, finally, is an exception to this rule. A German beer with character.
It pours a decent head, has just a hint of toffee, a good kick from the 6.4% alc. content, but is a real pleasure to drink - for me it sits somewhere between Surly Furious and Abrasive in experience...
Perhaps the highest compliment I can give this company is that I now actually bring beer to the States from Germany instead of the other way around as has long been the case...

This BraufactuM bottle also looks very, very good. In this way a great beer has to be presented. Beer in the glass dark, but not black, nice head. Strong-malty aroma, modest alcoholic. Beer starts strong, malty, not too roasty, modest alcoholic, some fruity notes of plums and raisins. Also some caramell notes. Finish still strong-malty, intense, warming, modest sweet notes, but also some hints of bitter chocolate in the background. Well balanced and warming finish, wonderful soft-malty aftertaste. I really liked it!
